The Gog Magog Golf Club

Set on the unusually named Gog Magog Hills and home to the world famous Lagonda Trophy, Gog Magog Golf Club is one of the premier 36 holes venues in the country. A sight of great history, the Club enjoys views over the city of Cambridge and the surrounding countryside.

Gonville and Caius College first purchased the land adjacent to the Gog Magog Hills for use as a golf course, "primarily for the use of senior members of the University", in 1896. Nine holes were laid out in 1899 and, in 1901, a further nine holes were laid out and the Gog Magog Golf Club was formally established.

The initial course design was created by a local professional golfer, W Duncan, and subsequent changes were made by members' committees, in conjunction with the Head Greenkeepers, with Willie Park Junior, James Braid and, most recently, with Martin Hawtree, thus bringing the Old Course to its present state. Hawtree & Son were also responsible for the design of the Wandlebury Course opened in 1999.

Today the Club hosts events on behalf of the PGA, England Golf and in its history, the R&A. Both courses offer something different, the Old is a traditional ‘downland’ course with strategic bunkering, carved out of the hills. The Wandlebury, a test for the modern golfer is designed as our championship offering. Both courses are a joy to play, they provide a level of difficulty dependant on the tees you choose to play.

A feature that every course should offer.
