Set in the Warwickshire countryside between Birmingham and Coventry, Forest of Arden Hotel & Country Club is one of the best-known golf resorts in the Midlands, with two Donald Steel courses, a four-star hotel and a spa on a single site.
The resort lies within the 10,000-acre Packington Estate, an area of ancient woodland, lakes and parkland grazed by fallow deer, close to Meriden, the village traditionally regarded as the centre of England. Despite its rural setting, it is only a short drive from Birmingham Airport, the NEC and the motorway network, making it an easy base for groups flying into the Midlands.
Since 2023, the resort has been owned by Warner Hotels, part of Bourne Leisure, which is investing in an extensive refurbishment ahead of relaunching Forest of Arden under the Warner Hotels brand.
The Arden Course
The championship Arden Course is one of England’s established tournament venues. It hosted the English Open seven times and the British Masters on five occasions during the 1990s and 2000s, and the European Tour returned in 2020 for the Hero Open. At more than 7,200 yards from the championship tees, the par-72 layout demands length as well as accuracy, with tree-lined fairways, water and majestic oaks that make it feel far more mature than its age.
The Aylesford Course
The Aylesford Course, also designed by Donald Steel, is a shorter par 69 of around 5,800 yards. Its tree-lined fairways and gently undulating greens reward accuracy rather than power, making it an ideal second round for groups of mixed ability, or a relaxed warm-up before tackling the Arden.
Stay, dine and relax
The four-star hotel has more than 200 bedrooms, many with views over the golf courses and countryside, along with a spa, an indoor pool and a gym. A golf academy with resident PGA professionals, practice facilities and extensive meeting and event space make it well suited to golf societies, corporate golf days and longer golf breaks.
Off the course, Warwick Castle, Stratford-upon-Avon, Cadbury World and the cities of Birmingham and Coventry are all within easy reach, giving non-golfers plenty to explore.
