General admission tickets for the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor sold out over a year in advance — a sign of just how far interest in this event has risen. Off the back of that, three candidates have put themselves forward to host the 2035 event on English soil — one established, one brand new, and one in the middle of a major redevelopment. Whichever venue wins, all three are set to become ongoing tourist destinations in their own right.
Three English bids for 2035
The race to bring the Ryder Cup back to England for 2035 has narrowed to three serious contenders, each backing their bid with significant money:
Hulton Park (Bolton, Greater Manchester) — a proposed new-build course with £240m behind it and a further £70m transport package to improve M61/M6 access, championed by Andy Burnham during his time as Greater Manchester Mayor and now backed by his successor, Mayor Bev Craig. The course is being laid out by European Golf Design on a historic Hulton family estate and would give England its first Ryder Cup venue since The Belfry in 2002. Tommy Fleetwood has publicly backed the bid.
Luton Hoo (Bedfordshire) — already under construction as a £170m redevelopment designed by Justin Rose and Gary Player, with ambitions to become “the Augusta of Europe.” The project is backed by Arora Group and its chairman, Surinder Arora, and will incorporate grounds originally laid out by the landscape architect Capability Brown.
The London Club — a Jack Nicklaus design with real tournament pedigree (the European Open, World Matchplay) and a planned hotel and spa expansion, with the accessibility advantage of sitting just off the M25. Already home to two 18-hole courses and a regular European Tour fixture, the Kent venue sees its planned expansion as the missing piece needed to land a Ryder Cup.
Whichever venue eventually wins, English golf tourism benefits from the ongoing attention this contest generates — it keeps international eyes on our courses, our infrastructure and our ability to host at the highest level.
