The Blazing Donkey Country Hotel
The Blazing Donkey Country Hotel
Blaze a trail to Sandwich, Kent....and discover the award-winning Blazing Donkey - an independently-owned individual Inn of true character
Originally a farm dwelling dating back to 1763, The Blazing Donkey is situated at Ham, Sandwich. A short drive from Royal St. Georges, Princes and Royal Cinque Ports, the property was first a hostelry and its accommodation was opened in 1995 by the BBC golf's Peter Alliss.
The converted stable accommodation is perfect for golfers and is arranged spaciously in a private residents courtyard allowing guests to park directly adjacent to their rooms. The property sits in its own extensive and beautifully prepared grounds with uninterrupted views of the surrounding countryside. Dining and bar facilities can be enjoyed from the hotel's alfresco terrace in the Summer months and for the cooler times, guests' merriment is aided by the warmth of the open fireplaces in the bar, lounge and dining areas within the main country house.
The Blazing Donkey is proud to work alongside Golf Tourism England and provides complete bespoke itineraries for golf groups from abroad as well as UK based travelling societies. Our golf desk can even arrange international flights as well as local excursions to vineyards and the very many local places of interest. Coastal high-speed seal-watching-rib-trips and visits to the secret wartime tunnels are among the favourites.
During major golf championships the hotel plays host to organisers and competitors alike. Indeed, guests at The Blazing Donkey are in good company as many of the worlds leading players have used us as their base when competing locally, including Sergio Garcia who stayed with us for 10 days when competing at Royal St. Georges.
According to The Blazing Donkey, its real authentic Kentish hospitality plays right into the hands of fun-loving golf groups who seek a more earthy experience instead of the somewhat formulaic and arguably soul-less predictable accommodations often found at on-site golf hotels. The Inns' golf-mad owner points to its golfer-friendly approach meaning that the bar generally closes when the last golfer leaves and breakfasts are served as early as necessary in order that tee times can be met well on time without missing out on the hotels' famous golfers breakfast!
Notably The Blazing Donkey works closely with a Florida-based tour operator and partner on its new and unique "Castles and Courses" golf breaks programme. "Combining the heritage of Kent's dramatic and historic castles along with championship golf at some of the world's finest links has proven so popular with our US visitors", commented Jack Haslett, Resident Golf Planner and guest host at The Blazing Donkey. "Add into the experience our fantastic restaurant and bar facilities and its a win-win" added Jack. Jack provides full tour assistance for all golf parties as well as organising the itineraries for its visiting groups.
The Blazing Donkey offers a total of 22 guest rooms with a wide range of variations so that VIP,twin, single and multi-occupancy configurations are bookable.
