Between the dates of 23-26 October 2025, GTE hosted a FAM trip for leading American golf tour operators to visit some of the regions finest golf clubs and hotels.
The group visited Walton Heath, Worplesdon, Hindhead and The Berkshire and enjoyed a warm reception and outstanding hospitality. They also stayed at the MacDonald Berystede and the Fairmont Windsor Park, two excellent hotels situated ideally to access all the best golf clubs.
The sand belt that runs through Surrey and Berkshire is home to many of the finest heathland golf courses in the world and is where the reputations of Harry Colt, Herbert Fowler, J.F. Abercromby and Willie Park junior were built in the early 1900’s. With a sandy base, these courses are playable all year round and the condition and playability in late October was excellent.
With two major international airports on the doorstep, access to the Southwest of London couldn’t be easier from pretty much anywhere in the world. And, of course, London is a 30 minute train ride, which opens up so many other attractions than just great golf.
Heathland golf is challenging and not suited to the faint hearted or inexperienced golfer, but playing amongst the pine trees, heather and bracken is a real joy, and one that is revered by lovers of this great game.
