The Herts Golf Tour offers fine tests of golf in splendid English countryside within an hour from the centre of London.
Founded in 1910 and designed by six-times Open Champion Harry Vardon, Sandy Lodge is a superb example of inland links golf. The site was chosen primarily because of its sandy soil and excellent drainage, and as a result, the course is open year-round and enjoys a reputation of being playable even in the most extreme weather conditions. An Open Championship Qualifying venue between 2015-2019, the course takes advantage of the area’s natural terrain while making use of heather, mounding, and strategically placed bunkers, challenging players of all ages and skill levels.
Berkhamsted Golf Club enjoys the most beautiful setting amongst woodlands, heather and gorse and has the most unusual characteristic of having no sand bunkers. The club hosts many County events and hosts one of the top amateur events each year, the Berkhamsted Trophy, which has seen names such as Sandy Lyle, Nick Faldo, Lee Westwood and many others coming through the circuit on their way to greater things.
