Herts Golf Tour
The Herts Golf Tour offers fine tests of golf in splendid English countryside within an hour from the centre of London.
Moor Park Golf Club is famous not only for its two challenging golf courses, but also for the imposing 17th century mansion house which acts as the clubhouse and hospitality centre. The High Course plays host annually to the Hertfordshire Stag, as well as regularly welcoming such events as the Carris Trophy, County Championship and English Seniors Open.
Founded in 1910 and designed by six-times Open Champion Harry Vardon, Sandy Lodge is a superb example of inland links golf. The site was chosen primarily because of its sandy soil and excellent drainage, and as a result, the course is open year-round and enjoys a reputation of being playable even in the most extreme weather conditions. An Open Championship Qualifying venue between 2015-2019, the course takes advantage of the area's natural terrain while making use of heather, mounding, and strategically placed bunkers, challenging players of all ages and skill levels.
Berkhamsted Golf Club enjoys the most beautiful setting amongst woodlands, heather and gorse and has the most unusual characteristic of having no sand bunkers. The club hosts many County events and hosts one of the top amateur events each year, the Berkhamsted Trophy, which has seen names such as Sandy Lyle, Nick Faldo, Lee Westwood and many others coming through the circuit on their way to greater things.
If you relish putting on speedy, true greens, you’ll love The Grove to bits. This set of ‘dancefloors’ have got to be among the best greens in the land though overall you’ll do remarkably well to find a course in better condition. The Grove is a class act – on and off the course – and always in immaculate shape. It is of course where Tiger Woods famously celebrated a memorable World Golf Championship success in 2006.
Interesting modern parkland where the cunning angling of the greens, with their multitude of surrounding slopes and run-off areas, rewards accurate approach play. It's only a few years old, but The Grove has already built itself a reputation for being one of the best golfing venues in the London area. Everything about the place oozes class - from the guys at the bag drop who get your bag out of the car and clean your clubs, to the beautiful ring-bound yardage books. The golf course itself is a very good track in superb, year-round condition.
